I am here for someone I love
You have been watching someone you love disappear into both. The withdrawal, the low moods, the cycles that never seem to end. You made the call. That took courage. We have a dedicated space for families.
Depression and addiction are not two separate problems. They are one cycle. At CRTC we treat both simultaneously because treating only one leaves the other in place.
It often starts quietly. A drink to take the edge off a difficult day. Something to make the weight of depression feel a little lighter. And for a while it works. Until it does not.
The depression gets worse. The drinking or the substance use increases to compensate. And somewhere along the way it becomes impossible to tell which came first or which is driving which.
You are not here because you are weak. You are here because you have been carrying something that was never meant to be carried alone.
That is why one treatment at a time does not work.
When depression is treated without addressing the addiction, the substance use continues to destabilize mood, sleep, energy and motivation. The depression keeps coming back.
When addiction is treated without addressing the depression, the underlying pain remains. And when the structure of treatment ends, the depression pulls the person back toward the substance.
At CRTC we hold both simultaneously from the very first day. Our psychiatric team evaluates and addresses the depression directly. Our clinical team addresses the addiction and what has been driving it. Both treatment tracks run in parallel, informing each other throughout the entire program.
You have been watching someone you love disappear into both. The withdrawal, the low moods, the cycles that never seem to end. You made the call. That took courage. We have a dedicated space for families.
You are here for yourself. Living with both is exhausting in a way that is hard to explain to anyone who has not been there. You do not have to keep explaining. We already understand.
Depression and addiction require clinical tools that work at the intersection of both.
At CRTC we do not apply a generic treatment framework. We build a plan around your specific history, your depression presentation, your substance use and the relationship between the two.
Family therapy is also a significant part of this work. Depression and addiction together affect relationships deeply and the people around the patient are often a critical part of lasting recovery.
From the moment you arrive to the life you build after, we walk every step with you. One team. One philosophy. All the way through.
Your body needs to clear safely before anything else can begin. Our medical team is with you every hour of this process.
The real work happens here. Therapy, psychiatric support, holistic healing and gradual real-world reintegration. Your treatment plan is built around you specifically.
You are ready to return to daily life, but not alone. We stay close as you find your footing.
Discharge is not the end. We stay connected and remain a presence in your life long after you leave.
CRTC was not built from a business plan. It was built by someone who lived through addiction and recovery himself. Who sat where you are sitting now. Who experienced the gaps, the fragmentation, the programs that almost worked. And who made a promise to himself to build something that actually did.
Gernot personally answers admissions calls. When you reach out you are not talking to a call center. You are talking to someone who genuinely understands where you are right now.
The mountains of Atenas or the heart of San José. A different pace. Real distance from the environment, pressures and patterns that have made everything harder.
Days with shape and purpose. Therapy that truly knows you. A team that understands this specific combination and what it takes to address both. A community of people who understand without judgment. And slowly, something shifts.
Recovery lived while you are still supported. So that when you leave, it is not theoretical. It is something you have already begun.
Distance from your environment is not an obstacle. It is the first intervention. Removing yourself from the people, places and patterns that have reinforced both the depression and the addiction creates the space for something new to take hold. Costa Rica gives you that distance. But it gives you something more. The natural setting, the stillness, the change of pace are not incidental. They are part of how healing happens here.
Leaving your triggers behind is not running away. It is the smartest first step you can take.
The rainforest, the rivers, the stillness. These are not amenities. They are part of the treatment.

When anxiety drives the use and the use deepens the anxiety, both are treated together.
Learn about addiction and anxiety treatmentYes. In fact treating them separately is one of the most common reasons people relapse. When only the addiction is addressed the depression remains and continues to drive the use. At CRTC both are treated simultaneously as part of one integrated plan.
This depends on the clinical picture. Our psychiatric team evaluates each client individually. Medication may be appropriate for some presentations. It is never the only approach and is always part of a broader treatment plan that includes therapy, holistic modalities and lifestyle support.
Our programs run at 30, 60, 90 and 120 days. The average length of stay is 60 to 90 days. The full 120-day program is required to qualify for the 30-day relapse guarantee.
Yes. Family therapy is part of our program and we actively encourage family involvement at appropriate stages. We have dedicated resources for families.
The therapeutic distance from your home environment is especially powerful for this combination. The patterns, stressors and relationships that have reinforced both the depression and the addiction are left behind. That space is where genuine healing begins.
