Costa Rica Treatment Center is a private residential addiction and mental health treatment program operating two distinct centers in Costa Rica.

Founded in 2016 and formally launched as a comprehensive treatment program in 2018, CRTC was built by someone who lived through addiction and recovery himself. That foundation shapes everything we do.

Our story

The place I needed but could never find

CRTC began in 2016 as a sober living and recovery support environment. As patient needs became clearer, and informed by the founder's firsthand experience navigating fragmented systems of care, the model evolved.

In 2018 Costa Rica Treatment Center formally launched as a comprehensive, multidisciplinary and evidence-based addiction and mental health treatment program. Fully licensed and accredited by IAFA and the Ministry of Health of Costa Rica, the program integrated medical detoxification, psychotherapy, structured residential treatment and ongoing recovery support within a single unified continuum of care.

Today CRTC operates two distinct residential centers, San José in Rohrmoser and Atenas Riverside, and has treated more than 600 patients since launching the treatment center model. The philosophy has not changed since the first day. Treat the whole person. Stay with them all the way through.

What we stand for

Five things we believe that shape everything we do

No two people are the same

Every client arrives with a unique history, a unique set of circumstances and a unique path forward. Treatment that does not reflect that is not really treatment. It is processing.

Recovery does not end at discharge

The program that ends when a client leaves is not a program. It is a stay. We stay connected, check in and remain present long after the clinical work formally ends.

The environment is part of the treatment

Costa Rica is not a backdrop. The natural setting, the therapeutic distance, the change of pace are active ingredients in the recovery process.

Difficulty is not a reason to give up

When a patient becomes resistant, dysregulated or difficult, that is when they need the most support. Our no-expulsion philosophy means we stay engaged through the hardest moments.

Small scale is a clinical decision

A maximum of 28 patients across both centers is not a limitation. It is a philosophical choice. Every patient is known. Every plan is individualized. No one gets lost.
