Polysubstance addiction treatment · Costa Rica

When more than one substance is involved, treatment needs to reflect that complexity

Polysubstance use is more common than most people realize. Multiple substances create multiple dependencies, multiple withdrawal patterns and a more complex clinical picture. At CRTC we are experienced in treating all of it simultaneously.

We understand

Polysubstance use is complex. So is the path back from it.

Many people who arrive at CRTC are using more than one substance. Sometimes it is alcohol and cocaine. Sometimes it is opioids and benzodiazepines. Sometimes stimulants and sleeping pills. Sometimes a combination that evolved gradually as each substance began filling a different role.

Polysubstance use often develops because one substance stopped working. Or because one substance created a problem that another substance seemed to solve. Or because the underlying pain was too much for any one substance to manage.

Whatever the combination, whatever the story that led here, you are not broken and you are not beyond help. The complexity of your situation is exactly what we are built to address.

How we treat it

Multiple dependencies require a treatment plan that holds all of them

Treating polysubstance use requires clinical precision.

Different substances create different withdrawal patterns, different timelines and different clinical risks. Managing multiple dependencies simultaneously requires a medical team with genuine expertise and a clinical plan built around the specific combination of substances involved.

Everything together

Nothing is addressed in isolation

At CRTC our medical team conducts a thorough evaluation on arrival and builds a detox and treatment plan that accounts for every substance in the picture. Nothing is addressed in isolation. Everything is managed together.

Beneath the surface

The factors that drove the use of several substances

Beyond the physical complexity, polysubstance use almost always involves deeper psychological and emotional factors that drove the use of multiple substances in the first place. Understanding those factors and addressing them clinically is central to building lasting recovery.

Built from the inside

Our founder knows this journey personally

CRTC was not built from a business plan. It was built by someone who lived through addiction and recovery himself. Who sat where you are sitting now. Who experienced the gaps, the fragmentation, the programs that almost worked. And who made a promise to himself to build something that actually did.

Medical detox

Polysubstance detox requires specialized medical expertise. We have it.

Detoxing from multiple substances simultaneously is one of the most medically complex situations in addiction treatment.

Different substances have different withdrawal timelines, different risks and different clinical requirements. Managing them safely requires a medical team with genuine expertise and around-the-clock supervision.

At CRTC our medical team builds a detox protocol specific to the substances involved and the individual patient. The process is managed safely, with your comfort and your clinical safety as the absolute priority. Nothing is rushed. Everything is monitored.

You are not alone in what you are carrying

Polysubstance use rarely exists without something deeper driving it

For most people who use multiple substances, the pattern is connected to something underneath. Depression that one substance temporarily helped with. Anxiety that another numbed. Trauma that needed managing in more than one way. Burnout that required different substances for different moments.

At CRTC we are equipped to address both the polysubstance dependency and the underlying mental health conditions simultaneously. Our dual diagnosis capability means nothing gets left behind. The full picture gets treated.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about polysubstance treatment at CRTC

Do I need to detox before arriving?

No. Our medical team manages the detox process on site from the moment you arrive, regardless of how many substances are involved. You do not need to have stopped using before you come.

Is it more dangerous to detox from multiple substances at once?

It can be more complex. Different substances have different withdrawal risks and timelines. Our medical team builds a detox protocol specific to the substances involved and manages the entire process with clinical precision and around-the-clock supervision.

How long does polysubstance treatment take?

Our programs run at 30, 60, 90 and 120 days. Given the complexity of polysubstance cases, longer programs are often recommended. The average length of stay is 60 to 90 days. The full 120-day program is required to qualify for the 30-day relapse guarantee.

Can my family be involved in my treatment?

Yes. Family therapy is part of our program and we actively encourage family involvement at appropriate stages. We have dedicated resources for families.
