Every adventure therapy activity at CRTC serves a specific clinical purpose that is discussed with clients before and after the experience.
Before an activity clients are prepared for the therapeutic intention. After, there is a structured reflection process. What did they notice? What surprised them? What does it mean that they did this sober? How does it change what they believe is possible?
Over the course of treatment these experiences accumulate into something important. A growing body of evidence from direct experience that sobriety is not deprivation. That life without substances can be genuinely rich, exciting, meaningful and worth protecting.
This is one of the most powerful things treatment can do. Not just remove the addiction. But give the person something to be sober for.
