We understand

We have seen what opioids do to a person. And to the people who love them.

Opioid addiction rarely begins with a choice to become dependent. It begins with pain. A prescription. An injury. A surgery. And then something shifts and suddenly stopping feels physically and psychologically unbearable.

The shame around opioid use runs deep. Many people have tried to stop on their own and failed. Many families have watched someone they love cycle through withdrawal and relapse, over and over, wondering if it will ever end.

You are not here because you are weak. You are here because this is one of the most difficult addictions a person can face and you are finally ready to face it with real support. That matters.

How we treat it

We treat the person. Not just the opioid dependency.

Opioid addiction requires a comprehensive approach that addresses both the physical dependency and the deeper psychological, emotional and relational factors that have kept it in place.

Knowing you

We get to know your situation first

When you arrive our multidisciplinary team takes the time to truly understand your situation. Your history with opioids, the pain or circumstances that contributed to the dependency, your mental health, your relationships and your life. From that full picture we build a treatment plan specific to you.

Your path

No single approach works for everyone

We do not believe one approach works for everyone. Some people need intensive trauma work alongside detox. Others need psychiatric support for underlying pain conditions or co-occurring depression. Others need a complete life restructuring alongside clinical treatment. We offer all of it and we find what genuinely works for you.

The toolkit

Every proven modality, in one place

Our therapeutic approach draws from CBT, DBT, EMDR, Motivational Enhancement Therapy, Transactional Analysis, 12-Step facilitation, SMART Recovery, Refuge Recovery, somatic work, mindfulness, breathwork, yoga, forest bathing, sound therapy, adventure therapy, family therapy, psychoeducation and integrative recovery through our CRTC x VINOVA alliance.

Built from the inside

Our founder knows this journey personally

CRTC was not built from a business plan. It was built by someone who lived through addiction and recovery himself. Who sat where you are sitting now. Who experienced the gaps, the fragmentation, the programs that almost worked, and who made a promise to himself to build something that actually did.

Medical detox

Safe opioid detox requires medical expertise. We have it.

Getting through detox safely is the foundation everything else is built on. We make sure you get through it.

Opioid withdrawal is one of the most physically and psychologically intense of all substance withdrawals. The physical symptoms including muscle pain, nausea, sweating, insomnia and acute anxiety can be severe. Without proper medical support this phase can feel unbearable and is one of the most common reasons people return to using.

At CRTC our medical detox is supervised around the clock by our clinical and nursing team. Withdrawal symptoms are managed. Your comfort is prioritized. Medication-assisted support is available where clinically appropriate. And you are never alone in those first difficult days.

What recovery looks like here

Not just stopping. Building a life worth protecting.

The mountains of Atenas or the heart of San José. A different pace. Real distance from everything that has been pulling you back.

Days with shape and purpose. Therapy that truly knows you. A team that understands opioid dependency specifically and what it takes to build a life after it. A community of people who understand without judgment. And moments of genuine joy that remind you what life without opioids can feel like.

Recovery lived while you are still supported. So that when you leave, it is not theoretical. It is something you have already begun.

Their words. Their journey.

You are not alone in what you are carrying

Opioid dependency rarely arrives on its own

For many people opioid use began as pain management and became something more complex. Chronic pain, depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD are deeply intertwined with opioid dependency in many cases.

Treating the opioid dependency without addressing these underlying conditions is one of the most common reasons people relapse after treatment. At CRTC we are equipped to treat both simultaneously. Nothing gets left behind in your recovery.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about opioid treatment at CRTC

Do I need to detox before arriving?

No. Our medical detox program is the first phase of treatment and happens on site under full clinical supervision. You do not need to have stopped using before you arrive.

Is opioid withdrawal dangerous?

Opioid withdrawal is rarely life-threatening but it is one of the most intensely uncomfortable withdrawal experiences a person can go through. Without proper medical support many people return to using simply to stop the physical and psychological symptoms. Our medical team manages the process safely and with genuine clinical care from the first hour.

Do you offer medication-assisted treatment?

Medication support during detox and treatment is available where clinically appropriate and determined by our medical team. We take a comprehensive view of what each patient needs rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

How long does opioid treatment take?

Our programs run at 30, 60, 90 and 120 days. The average length of stay is 60 to 90 days. The full 120-day program is required to qualify for the 30-day relapse guarantee.

Can my family be involved in my treatment?

Yes. Family therapy is part of our program and we actively encourage family involvement at appropriate stages. We have dedicated resources for families.

Support for families
Why Costa Rica for opioid treatment?

The distance from your home environment is one of the most therapeutically powerful aspects of treatment at CRTC. Removing yourself from the people, places and patterns connected to your opioid use creates genuine space for change.

Why Costa Rica
Do you accept insurance?

CRTC is a private pay center. We assist clients in navigating out-of-network PPO reimbursement claims where applicable.
