I am here for someone I love
You have watched someone you love struggle with impulsivity, inconsistency and addiction for years. You may have wondered whether there was something more going on. There often is. We are here.
ADHD and addiction co-occur at significantly higher rates than in the general population. For many people the ADHD was never properly identified or treated and substances became the way of managing a brain that never felt like it could function on its own terms. At CRTC we address both.
ADHD in adults is significantly underdiagnosed. Many people with ADHD spent years being told they were not trying hard enough, were too impulsive, could not focus, could not follow through. They developed their own strategies for managing a brain that worked differently from the world's expectations.
For many, substances became part of those strategies. Stimulants to focus. Alcohol to quiet the constant noise. Cannabis to slow things down enough to feel present. The self-medication was often intuitive rather than conscious.
By the time they arrive at CRTC many clients with unrecognized ADHD have been managing both conditions for years without a clear understanding of the neurological dimension driving everything. Identifying and properly addressing the ADHD changes the entire treatment picture.
Proper diagnosis and treatment changes recovery outcomes.
ADHD involves differences in dopamine regulation that make the brain particularly vulnerable to the effects of substances. Many substances provide the dopamine hit that the ADHD brain is chronically seeking. This is not a moral failure. It is a neurological reality.
Treating addiction without addressing ADHD leaves the neurological driver of use in place. The cravings, the impulsivity and the difficulty with behavioral regulation that characterize ADHD continue to create high relapse risk.
Proper ADHD diagnosis and treatment, including appropriate medication management where indicated and behavioral strategies that work with the ADHD brain rather than against it, significantly changes recovery outcomes.
You have watched someone you love struggle with impulsivity, inconsistency and addiction for years. You may have wondered whether there was something more going on. There often is. We are here.
You are here for yourself. You may have suspected ADHD for a long time. Or this may be the first time you are considering it. Either way, this combination is something we understand and are specifically equipped to treat.
At CRTC ADHD assessment is part of the comprehensive evaluation that happens on arrival. If ADHD is identified, the treatment plan is built to reflect its specific clinical requirements.
Medication management for ADHD is handled by our psychiatric team with care and expertise. The intersection of ADHD medication and addiction recovery requires clinical sophistication, particularly around stimulant medications. Our psychiatrists navigate this with appropriate caution and transparency.
Beyond medication, CBT adapted for ADHD is highly effective in helping clients build executive function skills, manage impulsivity and develop sustainable behavioral strategies. ACT is also particularly relevant, helping clients build a different relationship with the experience of being in an ADHD brain.
Our program structure, with its clear daily schedule and consistent therapeutic rhythm, provides the external scaffolding that supports ADHD clients in ways that less structured environments do not.
From the moment you arrive to the life you build after, we walk every step with you.
Your body needs to clear safely before anything else. Our medical team is present from the first hour.

CRTC was not built from a business plan. It was built by someone who lived through addiction and recovery himself. Who sat where you are sitting now. Who experienced the gaps, the fragmentation, the programs that almost worked. And who made a promise to himself to build something that actually did.
Gernot personally answers admissions calls. When you reach out you are not talking to a call center. You are talking to someone who genuinely understands where you are right now.
The mountains of Atenas or the heart of San José. A different pace. Real distance from the environment, pressures and patterns that have made everything harder.
Days with shape and purpose. Therapy that truly knows you. A team that understands this specific combination and what it takes to address both. A community of people who understand without judgment. And slowly, something shifts.
Recovery lived while you are still supported. So that when you leave, it is not theoretical. It is something you have already begun.
Distance from your environment is not an obstacle. It is the first therapeutic step. The people, places, routines and patterns that have reinforced both conditions are environmental. Creating real distance from them creates real space for change.
Leaving your triggers behind is not running away. It is the most practical first step recovery can take.
